We drive north to an area called Vallentuna where an old Viking Bridge named Jarlabankes bro is to be found. In this area there are many runic stones, one in the name of the Viking Jarlabanke himself that proudly tells that he built the bridge in the name of Christianity.
We pass Mora Stenar, the Royal Crowning stones from around 1200 A.D. on our way to the Old Uppsala, probably the most historic place in Sweden because of the old Viking parliament and the Mounds. According to old Swedish mythology it was the Viking gods Oden, Tor and Frej that made these mounds although recent research has produced other theories. The last stop is at Sigtuna which was an important trading place first settled in 980 A.D. Here the grounds of Sweden as a nation under God and with only one king was set. |
