Sea Breeze and Buzzing Culture

Rising slightly above sea level, Denmark forms the southern border of Scandinavia with the rest of Europe. The peninsula of Jylland connects with Germany, and Fyn and Sjælland are the biggest of some 443 other islands. The country’s nature might seem gentler than its Nordic neighbours, but no less pleasing to visit. Rolling pastures dominate the view of the countryside, and at no point does one stand further than 52 kilometres from sea. Denmark’s capital, Copenhagen, is a wonderful city to visit at any time of year, filled with interesting cultural and historical sights and easily covered on foot or bicycle, the preferred means of transportation in the flat city. Strøget, the main shopping street, is satisfying even if you’re just window-shopping and the chance to sit down in Nyhavn with an open-face smørrebrød sandwich and world-class Danish beer at hand might have something to do with why the Danish are generally considered happy-go-lucky in everyday life.
